Avoiding Rebound Pounds

"Great effort is required to arrest decay and restore vigor. One must exercise proper deliberation, plan carefully before making a move, and be alert in guarding against relapse following a renaissance." ~ Horace

It takes a lot of discipline and effort to lose weight & shed excess fat, and I don't know about you, but I would do almost anything (healthy) to keep off the discarded weight/fat.

But how do you do it? Well obviously by maintaining a healthy lifestyle; but a fatty acid might actually be the key to remaining healthy & not gaining back the excess weight/fat.
According to a new University of California at Davis study:
"Researchers had 23 formerly obese adults take 5 grams daily of borage oil, the richest natural source of an omega-6 fat called gammalinolenic acid (GLA). After a year of supplementing with GLA post-weight loss, the participants regained 80 percent fewer pounds than the control group did. Being overweight reduces levels of arachidonic acid in key membranes, which makes it easier for the body to store fat, according to study author Stephen Phinney, M.D., Ph.D. Unfortunately shedding fat doesn't reverse this problem. But consuming GLA may, by pushing the body to produce more arachidonic acid." ~ Men's Health Magazine (October 2007)
I'm currently taking an Omega 3-6-9 supplement, but I might consider adding a Omega-6 supplement to increase the GLA.

Hmm, that's interesting. Personally I usually don't like any kind of supplements, so I wonder how much oily fish you'd have to eat to equal that? :D
